The Wonderful World of Magnesium

I used to get migraines with hormone fluxes, and food triggers, then I started getting dehydrated easily and started getting migraines with that. That is when I found that drinking a ‘sports drink’ would make it go away. (IV hydration too)  I have found NUUN optimal hydration  tablets, are my favorite cure.  Sports drinks have magnesium, and it’s friend potassium in them. This was my ‘aha moment and started studying magnesium.  My Gosh!! Just about everything on the list magnesium deficient symptoms myself and my family have suffered from sometime in this malabsorptionized life.

The majority of the basic symptoms of Celiac and GF are from not absorbing magnesium. The slow emptying is because the muscles can’t contract from lack of magnesium. The acid reflux, is from magnesium not being there to check the acid production, and contract the esophagus. Magnesium balances the PH in the body, those with psoriasis, dermatitis herpet. have low PH.

Then there are the other symptoms, that we think are totally unrelated to our wheat intake. Yet they are, because low magnesium is responsible for these malfunctions, and wheat gluten gets in the way of our absorbing magnesium:migraine, osteoporosis, insomnia, stroke, high cholesterol, hypertension, asthma, constipation, congestive heart failure, anxiety attacks, muscle cramps, eye twitches, fibromyalgia, nausea, seizures, potassium deficiency, ADHD, epilepsy, PMS, Type 2 Diabetes, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Depression, delirium, hallucinations, pancreatitis, IBS, kidney stones, gall stones, mitrael valve prolapse, nerve disorders, autism,

Magnesium is more than important for a healthy body. It is essential. Over 300 enzymatic reactions  of the body are dependent on magnesium. Nerves, heart, brain, muscles, bones, digestive, vessels, there is nothing that is not affected by magnesium, or the lack of.

Magnesium can be absorbed through skin or through ingesting it through foods or supplements where it is then absorbed through the gut,  mostly the small intestine, through the villi, IF digestive system is healthy.  Many have so much damage to their gut, they can not absorb enough orally, an epsom salt bath or topical magnesium lotions or a mag patch is another ‘route’ for magnesium.

Those with Celiac, Crohns (still Celiac) ,stomach alterations through surgery, Cystic Fibrosis, anything that alters the bodies ability to digest food’s properly (anyone who ingests wheat) are NOT getting enough magnesium. IF you are eating wheat you are magnesium deficient. I think it would be safe to say if you are breathing you have low magnesium.

Laboratory testing for magnesium levels is lacking, the mag levels can be present in the blood, but still lacking in the cells. If mag in the blood is not in the cells, it is doing nothing for the calcium absorptions floating in the blood. So doctors don’t usually diagnose low mag, if they can’t see in on an X-ray or in lab work it does not exist, any where but the patients imagination. So how do you find out if you have low mag?  Purposely add magnesium to your diet and see the results, you will be amazed and feelin goooood!
